| OA Updates |
In October we were delighted to welcome back OA and professional cricketer Will Smeed for a special visit. Returning to familiar grounds in the cricket performance centre, Will delivered a dynamic masterclass on “power hitting” followed by an engaging Q&A session.
Will, who has made a name for himself in the world of T20 cricket, shared insights into his approach to batting, including how he selects shots, whether he premeditates, and the mindset that helps him deliver match-winning performances including in the T20 Blast Final where he was crowned man of the match.
King’s budding young cricketers were fascinated by his thoughtful responses and the level of detail he gave about his preparation and mental focus. Inspired by hearing firsthand about his school and professional cricketing journey, pupils had the opportunity to ask direct questions, ranging from how he balanced sport and academics, to how he achieved exceptional exam results and what his future aspirations are.
Having achieved an impressive 4 *A grades, he’s keeping his post-cricket playing future plans open, a luxury with such a strong academic record behind him that he can afford.
The session offered meaningful career guidance and inspiration to pupils as they consider their next steps beyond school, with some already looking into options for professional sports careers or ways to work within the industry.
We’re grateful to Will for his time and generosity and look forward to welcoming him back any time for a knock about in the cricket performance centre, we certainly aren’t short of willing volunteers to assist here at King’s!
