Bill last visited King's for an OA Dinner in 1971, making it 55 years since he had last been here.

Bill, who now splits his time between homes in Kent and France, was impressed by the many updates and improvements that have been made since he left. One of the things that struck him most, however, was how much smaller everything seemed compared with how he remembered it as a young boy!
As we walked around the grounds, Bill recounted tales of his time at King's. He shared memories of singing in the choir and attending chapel each day, a place where he found great comfort. He also spoke fondly of his favourite subjects, Geography and History, and of his French teacher, Ben Sykes, whom he described as a "breath of fresh air".

During his visit, Bill, who is an enthusiastic historian, also had the opportunity to meet with our Archivist, Alison. The two have previously corresponded regarding former pupils from both King's and Harvey Grammar School, Folkestone, where Bill is a governor, who lost their lives during the Second World War.

Bill has enjoyed a varied career since leaving King's. He trained as a teacher, served in the military, led groups on visits to battlefields across Europe, and has been involved in several conservation expeditions in Africa, primarily focused on elephants. Bill and Liz also run a small tree conservation charity on the slopes of Mount Kenya.
