Teenage Cricket Sensation Named Captain of the England U19 Squad
Thomas R, described by The Telegraph recently as a teenage cricketing sensation and compared to fellow OA Jos Buttler, has been named captain of the England U19 squad for their upcoming series against Ireland and Bangladesh. His performances throughout the season have been nothing short of outstanding, and it has been a privilege and incredibly exciting to watch his performances on screen and on the 1st XI pitch here at King’s.
Current Pupil Breaks International Record
Current pupil Zach V also created a new International cricket record earlier in the Month when he led Croatia in their ongoing T201 bilateral series with Cyprus; Zach became the youngest ever to lead an international team in cricket history.
Adding to this, a moment of pride for the whole school: four of our current and former pupils – James Rew, Thomas R, Josh Thomas and Fin Hill made up the bulk of Somersets batting line up filling the 4, 5, 6 and 7 positions. To see so many King’s players in a county line-up at once is truly special.
Many OAs Represent England on the International Stage
Yesterday also marked another milestone as former pupil Sonny Baker made his England ODI debut, following a string of superb performances in The Hundred. He now joins Old Aluredians Jos Buttler, Will Smeed, Tom Banton and James Rew in representing England on the international stage.
Success for Female Cricketers
The story continues in the women’s game too. Just one year after leaving King’s, Erin Vukusic has already made her professional debut. Erin is paving the way for the next generation of female cricketers to follow in her footsteps.
This season the Girls’ 1st XI were crowned national plate winners earlier in the year, and news just in that our boys U15 cricket team were crowned national champions – more to come on this soon…
These achievements are the result of years of hard work, expert coaching, and a culture that nurtures talent and ambition. We could not be prouder to see our pupils and former pupils making their mark, inspiring those who will come next and leading by example.
