A major redevelopment project is underway this summer at the Prep school Nursery, with a giant tree house structure set to provide enhanced outdoor learning opportunities for the youngest children. A unique tree house classroom bringing outdoor learning to life.
The elevated classroom-in-the-trees will provide a stunning space to play, connect and enjoy extensive outdoor learning all year round.
The tree house, a standout feature of the project is in addition to other major development and refurbishment work that is in full swing this summer, including a newly landscaped play area, enhanced Forest School with mud kitchen, modernised classrooms, and a smart new entrance.
This summer’s transformation marks the first phase of a long-term development plan across the Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep school in accordance with the ambitious five year strategic plan for King’s across both school sites. Future phases will build on this momentum, ensuring the school continues to offer the very best environment for young children to learn, grow, and thrive, now and into the next decade.
Michael Sloan, Executive Head of King’s College said “Our youngest children deserve the very best start, and having the freedom to learn and grow in a safe and inspiring outdoor environment is more important than ever. The development work marks the beginning of an exciting journey that will build on everything that already makes The Pelican Nursery and King’s College Prep School a really special place.”
Lead advisory on the project and school governor Marcus Gunn commented “We are looking forward to the positive impact this expansion and redevelopment will have on the local community and the young children attending The Pelican Nursery.
Part one of the nursery redevelopment will be completed during the Autumn term 2025, with limited places still available for families seeking exceptional early years provision.
Exceptional early years provision with 30 hours funding and playgroup sessions available
30 hours funding is accepted from September 2025 (under specific terms and conditions) and playgroup enquiries are still open, playgroup participants will also have access to the treehouse.
